Zimbabwe: The Stories We Need To Hear
Story by Adele Lo

Far too many of the images used in media reporting and in television fundraising only portray hopelessness in Africa. Even amongst Christians there can be some fatalism – ‘we can’t do anything to change it … that‘s how the world is anyway’.

Anyone on the street could tell you there is a development crisis in Africa, especially if you read the recent news headlines about Zimbabwe. 80% unemployment and inflation at over 1700% and rising – the economy is about to be ‘written off’ like an irreparable car. Women in Zimbabwe are only expected to live until they’re 34 years old and every fourth child is an orphan. It’s hard to imagine things could get much worse. READ MORE

New Project in Rwanda:
Improved literacy through the education of youth in reconciliation

Most of us remember well the tragedy that took place in Rwanda in 1994. The violence between Hutus and Tutsis appeared soon after independence in 1962 due to the Belgian colonial policy of divide and rule. Today 59% of the population still earns less than US$1 a day, 40% of the population cannot read or write (much lower in poorer urban areas and rural countryside) and the rate of HIV infection is 12%. The work of rebuilding must continue. READ MORE

I would like to take you back in time to February 1972 when you led a Christian Mission to Hilton College, with no doubt the permission and blessing of the then headmaster, Raymond Slater. On the 17th February during the course of the Mission, I committed myself to the Lord in the school's chapel. It was not a Paul-ine conversion, but rather a Peter-type conversion - just a quiet decision in the back pew with no bells, whistle or thunderbolts. READ MORE
